Q Where can I buy UNION and PROGUARD filters ?
A UNION and PROGUARD filters are sold in most of spare parts stores in major cities through out Indonesia.
   Q

How frequent do I need to change my filters – Oil, Air, Fuel and Transmission ?

   A

Depending on the type of driving and environmental conditions.  However It is best recommended to always check the owners manual  in order to determine when fluids and filters should be replaced.

   Q

How does the oil filter work ?

   A

The majority of automotive oil filters today are full flow filters. With this system, all of the oil is filtered before it passes into the engine. This means that a filter must remove as much engine damaging dirt and grit as possible from the oil. In filtration process, oil filters use pleated filter media which provides increasing surface area for high filtration efficiency within a relatively small space. The number of pleats in the media does not have as much bearing on filtration efficiency as the important quality of the media itself. With thicker, high quality media, the filter design may call for fewer pleats to improve fluid flow and filter performance.

   Q

How do I know what filter will perform the best job at taking the contaminants out of my oil ?

   A

UNION  filters are produced with same high standard for the average motorist who commutes regularly to work and occasionally embarks on a long road trip. It offers 95% single pass efficiency.

ROGUARD filters are manufactured mostly for heavy duty engines which are more suitable for tough or sever driving conditions. For this, a special attention to engine’s cleanness is needed.

   Q

What causes over pressurization ?

   A

From time to time, when the oil pressure regulating valve is malfunctioning, a used oil filter will appear deformed. Normally, there are two ways that the valve may fail to operate correctly, firstly it either sticks in the closed position or is slow to move to open position after the engine has started.

A continuing excessive oil pressure will cause filter deformation and if the regulating valve remains stuck, the gasket between the filter and the base can blow out or the filter seam will open. The system will then lose all of its oil. To minimize the risk of an over pressurized system, motorists should be advised to change the oil and filter often.

   Q

How are filters tested ?

   A

Filter engineering measurements test for Efficiency, Capacity, Mechanical and Durability.

Measuring Efficiency test is to show filter's performance or ability to prevent harmful particles from reaching the wearing surfaces of the engine, its objective is to protect the engine from wear. Typically methods for this test are called Single Pass Efficiency, Cumulative Pass Efficiency and Multi Pass efficiency.

Measuring Capacity test is to test the contaminant holding capacity in which the amount of contaminant removed can be held by a filter from the oil during a constantly recirculating flow of contaminated oil. The test is terminated when a predetermined pressure drop across the filter is reached, typically at 8 psid. This pressure drop is associated with the setting of a filter by-pass valve.

Mechanical and Durability test are tests to assure the integrity of the filter and its components during vehicle operating conditions. Such tests include Burst Pressure, Impulse Fatigue, Vibration, Relief Valve, Anti Drainback Valve operation and Hoi Oil Durability.
